Neighborhood, 2021 Rose ‘Basilisk’
Our 'Basilisk' Rosé is a beautiful natural wine made from a combination of Pinot Noir grown on Pali Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and Viognier sourced from Zaca Mesa Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. The Pinot Noir was harvested whole-cluster and gently crushed before the juice was left extract-ing color and flavor from their skins for two hours. The Viognier was hard-pressed to pull more flavor from its skins to create a whimsical and delicate wine. The Pinot Noir and Viognier were fermented separately in barrels at temperatures below 68°F, and self-topped via gravity. The final wines were blended and aged in 100% neutral French oak barrels for 150 days.
The juice is fermented using only native, natural yeast alive in the air and on the grapes. Nothing is added throughout the wine's elevage, resulting in a wine that is rich and complex with strong primary fruit flavors and acid, and remains unfined and unfiltered.
A fun rosé blend inspired by lighter times spent in good company. The Pinot Noir provides soft red fruits along with hints of herbs and dried flowers while the Viognier brings honeysuckle, lemon peel, and fresh cut grass to the party. Lemon acidity provides a clean and refreshing finish.
