Pali, 2017 Chardonnay 'Pali Vineyard'
This Chardonnay is made from grapes grown on our estate vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills. Pali Vineyard is located along the HWY 246 corridor in Gypsy Canyon. Planted in 2012, this 50-acre vineyard sits on a gentle, southeast-facing slope comprised of mostly sandy soil. This elegant mineral and acid driven Chardonnay is made from clone 95 and was barrel-fermented and barrel-aged sur-lie with regular battonage of the lees. The wine was barrel-aged in 50% new French oak for 18 months. Pali Vineyard is SIP certified. Golden-straw color, with completely clear transparency. Subdued fall fruits, focused on yellow apple and pear, matched with fresh melon and jackfruit. Faint aromas of baking bread and shaved almonds hint towards richness, although this Chardonnay remains lean, fresh and extremely well balanced.
