Garnet Red color with nice clarity. The nose gives loads of candied red fruits – cherries, raspberries, and plums explode from the glass, backed up by notes of coffee and cloves. The wine fills the palate with rich fruit flavors that coat the mouth. Ripe cherries, cola, and red licorice combine with toasted oak and black tea from start to finish. This wine lingers on the palate with velvety tannins and ripe fruit flavors.

Wine Profile
Winemaker Notes
This vineyard sits along the southerly Santa Rosa corridor of the Sta Rita Hills, bordering Sanford Winery and Vineyards to the west. The Rancho La Vina property has been in the Baer family for many generations, going back to the days of Spanish Land Grants. Aside from grapes, they grow organic produce and have an extensive walnut grove. This vineyard is elevated above the valley floor on a gentle, north-facing slope with very sandy soils. This vineyard typically produces grapes that are small in size, dark and color and low yielding in weight/crop, which tends to produce a more “masculine style” of Pinot Noir with bigger tannins and dark fruit flavors. Combination of clones 115 and 777. Clones are harvested, fermented, and barrel-aged separately for 16 months in 50% new French Oak.
