On March 12th, 2017, our San Diego tasting room held its very first wine blending party hosted by our winemaker, Aaron Walker. For this event, Aaron brought the five single varietal wines that are used in the production of red Bordeaux blends, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec so that participants could mix and match their own personalized Pali Bordeaux blends.
Bordeaux wines were originated in Bordeaux, France, but due its popularity, Bordeaux varietals have been planted in wine regions across the world. Our Tower 15 "The Swell" label includes our take on this classic blend, The Swell, and our most recent vintage consists of 26% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Malbec, 18% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Franc.
Attendees were given the opportunity to create their own versions of Bordeaux by using beakers to measure out precise volumes of each varietal. To ensure that our guests were well equipped for this task, many wines were tasted to understand the flavor profiles of each grape.
During the party, Aaron walked around the room to answer questions and to provide insight into the winemaking process while everyone enjoyed small plates and conversation.
The party was a fun time for all, and at the end of the night our guests took home a growler of their creations. We hope to hold another blending party soon, so stay tuned for more information, and in the meantime, let us know which grapes you would like us to blend next!
